Some facts you should know:
- ONA Bulletin Board, for communication of all ONA news and events, is located in the South Tower Main Level 100/200 wing by the elevators.
- From time to time will communicate news and events to you via your JBH e-mail account
- The difference between Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO), College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and ONA:
a)RNAO is a professional body.
b)CNO licenses nurses and protects the public.
c)ONA, your union:
*Negotiates contract with employers (explain if in central/local bargaining).
*Has been doing this since 1973.
*Upholds contract; launches the grievance process.
*Lobbies government for changes in health care.
*Represents members at the CNO (see LEAP Guide).
*Represents members’ interests at the Labour Board, inquests and pension boards.
*Provides Malpractice Insurance.
*Provides support/representation at the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board.
*Provides support/representation at long-term disability (LTD) appeals.
*Provides education programs (refer them to the education calendar).
*Deals with occupational health and safety issues.
- Under the ONA benefit program base plan, the plan includes $250 of monthly LTD benefits for those without employer-sponsored coverage.
- An outline of 2025 dues paid: $127.69/month - with no Local levy
- If you work for more than one ONA employer, you will be deducted union dues by all employers. Please visit the ONA website – www.ona.org – for information on a dual dues refund.
- ONA education workshops - local support and funds are available if you attend.
- Date/time/location of meetings: Please watch your JBH email for meeting notifications and details. Meetings will be held in January & October
